1. Stick to a schedule:
Sticking to a schedule can be tough, but following one can really help maintain consistency during this busy time of year. If you don’t have time to go to the gym, try a home workout. If you’re watching TV, try a bodyweight strength circuit or yoga routine. Doing something is always better than doing nothing!
2. Change up your workout routine:
Don’t let boredom get in between you and your fitness goals! If you’re bored of the gym treadmill or stationary bike, go for a real run or bike ride! If you don’t want to go on another long distance run, go to your local gym for a HIIT class. Changing up your routine will keep you and your mind and body interested.
3. Keep an activity/food log:
Tracking your diet and exercise is the secret to success. If you are tracking consistently you will stay motivated to move more and be more successful in your nutrition and fitness goals. You’ll be able to connect the dots and avoid plateaus. There are many apps out there that make this an easy task so you can compare your good weeks to your bad weeks and reach those fitness goals!
4. Limit alcohol intake:
This is especially hard over the holidays, but alcohol is a big obstruction to your fitness goals because it’s high in calories and low in nutrient value. Cutting it out completely can be unrealistic for some, however be sure to monitor yourself and take everything in moderation. Your body will thank you for it!
5. Take advantage of the weather:
Living in Colorado provides many amazing opportunities for outdoor exercise during the fall. The cool air is good for your body and much more tolerable than our summer heat. Whether it’s hiking, riding a bike, going for a run, or just a walk around the neighborhood, be sure to make time each week to go outside!
